CHARACTER INFO
• Character Name: Venat, once known as Azim of the Convocation of Fourteen
• Character Age: ancient beyond ancient; vastly beyond 10,000 years but no specifics known beyond that
• Character Canon: FFXIV
• Canon Point: After her dissolution as Hydaelyn after the fight with the Warrior of Light in the Endwalker expansion
• Character History: Venat @ FF Wiki
• Character Personality:
— Positive Trait: CURIOUS. Venat's role on the Convocation of Fourteen was the seat of Azim, the Traveler, someone who's entire purpose is to go out and explore and learn about new places, people, and things. Venat 100% exemplifies this, right down to the fact that when most people leave the Convocation and vacate their seat, they tend to let themselves return to the Aether. Nope. Venat wasn't done living and she wanted to keep seeing how things would go. When faced with an impossible tale being told to her by an impossible person (a time traveler? from a future where their perfect world had ended?), she immediately spoke for the possibility and was more than willing to explore it despite how bizarre the very idea was. In an even greater sense, she was willing to destroy that which was for the hope of a better world in tomorrow. She's not afraid to move forward. It's pretty much what she's always for.
— Positive Trait: DETERMINED. Venat has had to persevere and put up with an absolutely ridiculous amount of suffering, but she did it for those she loved, for the world she loved, for the people she believed in and the potential that they held that she believed in. Venat isn't fearless; oh she knows that things can go to shit and she's going to do everything she can and everything she has to to try and prevent the worst ending. But she's never going to be afraid of the cost, even if she has to bear it all by herself for however long, even if it means 10,000 years of pain and suffering and watching the world she loves more than anything doing the same.
— Positive Trait: WISE. Venat is the queen of long game, of seeing all the sides, when it comes to believing the beautiful lie over the hard truth, she'll take that second one every time. For many years, she stuck around past her official duties to be an advisor to the Convocation, being a voice of reason and balance. When she saw her people going down a path that would have led to their destruction, she sacrificed herself and did something insane to try and give them a chance to survive, seeing the survival of her people as being more important than their temporary comfort. She balances her curiosity and open-mindedness with an intense need to test and prod and investigate and while she believes the Warrior of Light during the time travel episode, she also tests them and questions them until she's satisfied. In the DnD sense, she's extremely Neutral Good: respect for law and structure, but never to the point of foolishness.
— Negative Trait: STUBBORN. As is with many people, their best traits can also be their worst. Venat cannot be swayed when she has made her mind up, to the tune of thousands of years of maintaining her position and acting as best she can to keep her plans going. When her people stood against her, she literally sundered the world and all of them into 14 worlds. While that can certainly sound (and is!) heroic, it's also a little terrifying. It set her against the only other unsundered Ascians left around and did, in fact, set up her world and the people on it (all 14 in fact) to lives that included suffering, death, and despair where once there were none of those things. I'm not saying she was wrong, but I am saying... that's a terrifying thing to just Decide To Do. For another thing, we have no idea how much of her decision to do that is from the knowledge that she had done that from the time travel thing; we have 0 evidence that she tried to find another solution to the threat of the Song of Oblivion.
— Negative Trait: DISRESPECTFUL. Venat, despite her appearance, is actually like an old retiree of her people; she not only lived long enough to gain a place on her city's ruling council but she served long enough to retire. And then decided to stick around anyway, even though it's considered The Thing To Do to return to the Aether (which is like dying but you choose to do it and it's all graceful and not traditionally seen as a 'sad' thing). Nope. Not for her. She's also absolutely got that older person 'treat everyone like young whipper snappers' attitude (for all that she couches it gently and playfully) and can definitely come off as a little bit patronizing.
— Negative Trait: BELIEVER. Venat has a LOT of faith in people and to be fair, she's paid for it. Her entire plan hinged on believing in the potential of mankind once she'd sundered them and while it did actually happen, they did come through... we're aware of the fact that several of the splintered worlds DID fall, killing untold lives, and doing catastrophic damage to the Source (the main/original shard) similarly each time. There's even one world that got entirely borked by Darkness, becoming the Void and transforming everyone into cannibalizing demon monsters slowly going mad and unable to die. What I'm saying is that her stalwart faith has a downside and people have absolutely suffered for it.
